Stolen Valor Investigator (Volunteer Position)

Upholding Honor: Investigating Stolen Valor and Verifying Military Service

Company Overview

Verified Veterans LLC is a dedicated organization committed to preserving the integrity of military service by identifying and exposing cases of stolen valor—individuals falsely claiming military honors, service, or achievements. We work to protect the sacrifices of genuine veterans through thorough investigations, public awareness, and collaboration with law enforcement and veteran communities. Our team consists of passionate volunteers who share a commitment to truth and accountability.

Job Summary

As a Stolen Valor Investigator (Volunteer), you will play a vital role in researching and verifying claims of military service. This position involves gathering evidence, analyzing records, and preparing reports on suspected cases of stolen valor. This is a strictly voluntary role with no compensation, benefits, or reimbursement for expenses. Volunteers are expected to commit time flexibly based on case load and personal availability, typically 5-10 hours per week. All applicants must submit a formal application, pass a comprehensive background check, and receive approval before participating.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research using public records, military databases, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and social media analysis to verify or debunk claims of military service.
  • Interview witnesses, claimants, and relevant parties while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Collect and document evidence, including photographs, documents, and digital footprints.
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports summarizing findings, with recommendations for further action (e.g., public exposure or referral to authorities).
  • Collaborate with other volunteers, veteran organizations, and law enforcement as needed.
  • Stay updated on military protocols, ranks, awards, and legal aspects of stolen valor (e.g., Stolen Valor Act).
  • Adhere to all company policies, including data privacy and non-disclosure agreements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in investigative work, journalism, law enforcement, or military intelligence preferred.
  • Knowledge of military structure, terminology, and verification processes (e.g., DD-214 forms).
  • Proficiency in digital tools for research, such as databases, social media platforms, and basic forensics software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and interviews.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Prior military service is a plus but not required; if applicable, must be verifiable.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote, volunteer capacity.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to volunteer in the United States.
  • Willingness to undergo and pass a background check, including criminal history, and verification of any claimed military service. (The cost of the background check is $49.99; you are encouraged but not required to help cover the cost.)
  • Access to a computer, internet, and basic office software.
  • Commitment to neutrality and objectivity; no conflicts of interest (e.g., personal involvement in ongoing stolen valor cases).
  • Availability for occasional virtual meetings or training sessions.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a volunteer position with no monetary compensation, benefits, or reimbursement for any expenses incurred during investigations. Volunteers gain the satisfaction of contributing to a meaningful cause, networking opportunities within veteran communities, and potential letters of recommendation based on performance.
